At Babel, we firmly believe in the power of technology to transform lives\u2014but above all, in the power of people to inspire, guide and support those who need it most. That\u2019s why, for the third consecutive year, we have taken part in the ApadrinaTIC<\/strong> programme: an initiative that connects university students in vulnerable situations studying ICT-related degrees with professionals from the tech sector, offering them mentorship, guidance, and a valuable window into the world of work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During this year\u2019s edition, which ran from February to June 2025, seven Project Managers from Babel<\/strong> acted as mentors, supporting young talent in their personal and professional development. Through one-to-one mentoring sessions, they shared knowledge, insights and experiences\u2014becoming relatable and approachable role models within the technology sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beyond the metrics and outcomes, the true success of this initiative lies in the lived experiences and mutual learning of those who made it possible. Today, we bring together Clara G., Diego L., Jos\u00e9 Carlos J., and Teresa F.<\/strong> to share their reflections first-hand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What inspired you to join the programme?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Clara G. didn\u2019t hesitate for a moment:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n

\u201cI\u2019ve always enjoyed volunteering, and this felt like something truly different. I thought how useful it would\u2019ve been for me to have a mentor like this back at university. Plus, I\u2019m genuinely interested in how study programmes are evolving and what new methodologies are being used.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Teresa F. shares that same social drive:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n

\u201cIt struck me as a real way to contribute\u2014to support young people who are having a tougher time. They’re juggling their studies with complicated situations, and if we can help them look to the future with a different perspective, I\u2019m all in.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

For Diego L., the motivation was deeply personal:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI struggled to find my way into the job market. I had no one to guide me through interviews or help me manage insecurities. So I thought: \u2018If I can be that support for someone else, then absolutely.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Jos\u00e9 Carlos J. agrees:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n

\u201cI’ve always been drawn to helping others, especially those facing more vulnerable circumstances. When I saw the email about the programme, I signed up without a second thought.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n

What have you taken away from the experience?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n
\n

\u201cOn a personal level, it\u2019s been a real boost,\u201d says Diego. \u201cAt first, you wonder if you\u2019ll be able to connect or be genuinely helpful\u2026 but very quickly, you realise you can\u2014and you also learn a great deal yourself. In my case, my mentee had a particular difficulty when it came to studying, and that led me to research, ask questions and understand how to manage something like that within a real team. It helped me grow.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Teresa summarises it in three words:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n

\u201cListening, empathy and reality. Stepping outside your usual routine and hearing other life stories shifts your perspective.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Clara adds:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n

\u201cIt helped me appreciate my own experience. You don\u2019t always realise how much you know until someone asks. And seeing how prepared the new generations are\u2014it\u2019s energising.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

For Jos\u00e9 Carlos, the highlight was the direct connection with mentees:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cListening to how they see the job market, what they worry about, what they dream of\u2026 it really opens your eyes.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n

Do you think the company should continue supporting initiatives like this?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

There was no hesitation. Everyone agreed wholeheartedly\u2014and for good reason.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n

\u201cAbsolutely,\u201d says Clara. \u201cThis is what technology should be: a tool to help and to connect. And it\u2019s beneficial for the company too. If some of these young people end up working here, they already have a connection to us.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Diego adds:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBeyond talent, this builds a sense of belonging. Knowing you work somewhere that truly cares about people makes all the difference.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Jos\u00e9 Carlos echoes the sentiment:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n

\u201cInitiatives like this strengthen Babel\u2019s image as a company with genuine values. It\u2019s not just for show\u2014it\u2019s real action.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Teresa closes with a simple but powerful reflection:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n

\u201cProgrammes like this take us out of our bubble. And that, too, is company culture. I would absolutely recommend it.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

ApadrinaTIC has not only brought the tech sector closer to students in need\u2014it has also brought our professionals closer to a different reality.
