Diversity and AI in the future of banking

Interview with Rocío López, CIO Spain and Portugal at ING

.

The transformation of the financial sector cannot be understood today without artificial intelligence. The mission is to integrate it from a practical and responsible perspective, without losing sight of the key role of human critical judgement. Tools such as generative AI thus become allies in simplifying processes and offering more personalised experiences.

The real value comes from combining this technology with diverse teams, which drives innovation that is closer to the reality of customers and allows for the creation of inclusive solutions tailored to increasingly broad profiles and generations.

This diversity is also being worked on from the ground up. Initiatives such as Leonas InTech encourage girls and young women to pursue careers in technology, helping to close the gender gap in a sector where women are still under-represented. ING’s commitment goes beyond the technical: it seeks to change the model from within.

The banking of the future will not only be digital, it will also be more human, inclusive and sustainable. And that means taking on new challenges: ensuring security in complex environments, adapting to new financial habits and leading with purpose in an environment where technology is evolving at breakneck speed.
